Tom started with Smith, Rolfes & Skavdahl as a law clerk in 1991, and joined the firm as an associate after graduating from law school.  He became a partner in the firm in 1998.  In addition to his work with insurers, Tom also works with restaurants, retailers, school districts, and college fraternities and sororities on litigation and risk management issues, both on a regional and national level.

TRIALS

Tom has tried over thirty-five cases to juries throughout Ohio and Kentucky. The following is a sampling of his recent verdicts.

Defense verdict in the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas (Ohio) on a premises liability claim representing a major national retailer.

Defense verdict in an admitted liability case in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas (Ohio) on a bodily injury claim brought by a truck driver whose truck was struck by the client’s bus.

Defense verdict in Oldham Circuit Court (Kentucky) while defending a trucking company and their driver in a disputed liability accident resulting in one fatality and multiple other plaintiffs with severe injuries.

Defense verdict in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas (Ohio) while representing a school district on a premises liability claim of a parent-volunteer claiming economic damages of approximately $140,000.

$40,000 contribution on behalf of a subcontractor to $3 million settlement reached after ten days of trial in construction lawsuit in Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas (Ohio) involving a major public works project.

$80 verdict in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas (Ohio) while defending a motor vehicle accident claim with admitted liability.
