Matt is originally from the Washington, D.C. area and a graduate of Gonzaga College High School.  He attended the University of Dayton as a Presidential Scholar and member of the University Honors Program and received dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Sociology.  During college, Matt became actively involved in Greek life, serving as the vice-president of UD’s Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter and as a delegate on UD’s Inter-Fraternal Counsel.  He also spent one semester in the U.K. enrolled at the University of Cambridge, Selwyn College, where he completed a Certificate in International Politics.

Matt studied the law at the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law as a John Marshall Scholar.  During law school, he was a member of the Trial Advocacy Board, served as a summer law clerk to the Hon. Sandra S. Beckwith, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Ohio, and worked in the offices of the Virginia Commonwealth Attorney and Maryland Public Defender.  At graduation, he was presented with the Chief Justice Harry L. Carrico Pro Bono Award in recognition of the thousands of hours he volunteered as a certified firefighter and emergency medical technician.

After law school, Matt began his legal career at a mid-size business litigation firm in Northern Kentucky.  When his wife, Lauren, began pursuing a doctoral degree in psychology in Louisville, Kentucky, he joined an AV-rated insurance defense firm in that city and then seized the opportunity to become associate general counsel to the insurance industry’s oldest and leading health insurance claims recovery company.  Once Lauren’s psychological residency was complete, the two moved back to the Cincinnati, Ohio area (Lauren’s hometown), where Lauren opened her own clinical psychology practice and Matt joined the firm.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys golfing, playing with Tucker (his awesome Australian Shepherd), and reading historical biographies.
